Using VoIP to Join Corporate International Locations
As companies have chosen to replace traditional phone service with the burgeoning voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) technology, compelling examples of successful adoption have emerged.
One case in point as reported on the site for a company called Brekeke [link to: [link to: http://www.brekeke.com/products/products_bpbx_case4.php] involves the connection of a hotel company’s offices in Beijing, China, and Tokyo, Japan, through “cloud computing,” or the Internet. The company had a Brekeke PBX system with 30 to 40 IP phones installed at each of the respective offices. They also placed IP phones at other locations in both countries. Also part of the installation were wireless IP phones.
Departmental telephone numbers were provided by a Japanese VoIP telephony service, and each international location adopted four-digit extension numbers. Connection to traditional PSTN telephone lines was made possible by VoIP gateways, as were the connections to legacy PBX systems.
Brekeke PBXs handle the internal calls in each of the international locations as well as between the two countries. Calls can be made to PSTN lines in, and from, either location. A Brekeke PBX auto attendant in each location receives and forwards calls to specified locations.
Replacing T1 Lines with VoIP Systems
Nova Voice and Data Systems, Inc., describes on its Web site [link to: http://www.enova.us/voip/VoIPSuccess/] how one of its customers was able to eliminate expensive T1 telephone lines by installing Toshiba’s StrataNet program, which connects phone systems using VoIP. With this system in place, people in the company are able to contact coworkers in different locations by using a three-digit extension number and not having to make an outside call. This system also enable the use of one voicemail system for three locations. Cost savings were also realized because operators could be eliminated.
